I have some thrilling news to share!
Beginning in May, I will embark on a year-long residency at the Nashville Jazz Workshop, where I will showcase the works of a variety of jazz composers, including Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Henry Mancini, Alan & Marilyn Bergman, and many more.
As many of you are aware, my foundation in jazz was built during my time at NJW, where I discovered a wealth of songs that are now part of my book. It was also there that I recognized the significance of the composers I honor, as well as where I formed lasting relationships with friends, teachers, and mentors. It was where I first met Lori Mechem and Roger Spencer. And, it is where a petite blonde woman critiqued my first ever jazz performance, extended her hand to me and said "my name is Beegie Adair. You don't know me and I don't know you yet, but for now on - you'll be studying with me. I want to take you under my wing." That moment changed my life.
Returning to NJW to present the music that has been so meaningful to me, which I have dedicated my career to sharing and preserving with authenticity and care, brings me immense joy. I am thankful to Max Abrams, the new Executive Director of NJW, for this wonderful opportunity. If you live nearby, I hope you'll consider attending these events monthly, and for those from out of town, I encourage you to come and make it a destination. Nashville is a vibrant city, full of opportunities year-round. I hope you will stop by and include one of these special performances in your visit.
I will keep you updated regularly through email and social media. Please spread the word and let me know if you attend a show. I can’t wait to share this music that means so much to me and express my gratitude for your support in person.
Keep swingin,
Monica Ramey
